Julieta Ascar is an Argentine art director and set designer based in Buenos Aires.
She holds a degree in Design from the University of Buenos Aires and studied at Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes. She started her professional career at Teatro San Martin in the late 90s.
Her work combines scenography with curatorial and performance design, both in cultural and commercial venues in Buenos Aires.
She is known for being the author and artistic director of the main curtain of Teatro Colón (2009 – together with Argentine visual artist Guillermo Kuitca), and directed the creation of the stage of Mataderos Fair (2012), the architectural restoration of the Sala Alberdi at the Centro Cultural San Martin (2013) and the restoration of Teatro Alvear (2023).
As a set and stage designer, she participated in more than fifty theatrical and musical productions premiered in Argentina, Spain, France, Great Britain, Canada and Greece. Her most recent works are: PIAF (Teatro Liceo, 2022), TRAZA (Edificio histórico La Prensa, 2021), LOS MOSQUETEROS (Teatro Astral, 2023), ANTíGONA EN EL BAÑO (Teatro Astral, 2023), TODOS LOS COMIENZOS SON FALSOS (Fundación Cazadores, 2024), ¿QUE DE MAGNÍFICO TIENE TIENE SER YO?, (Teatro San Martín, 2024), and EXISTIR LA VEJEZ (Teatro Colón, 2022).
She was also the Artistic Director of the Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario (2016) and La Casa Nacional del Bicentenario (2017-2019), and artistic advisory member of the Buenos Aires Council of Cultural Participation (2020/21). As a curator and exhibition designer, she developed TRANSHISPANIA (by Juan Gatti. Her creative work in the field of advertising includes art direction and set design for renowned agencies, like Venue Brand Experience for COCA COLA SUMMIT 2024 at La Rural, among others.
Her credits in art direction for television include AMAS DE CASA DESESPERADAS (2005) CIENTÍFICOS ARGENTINOS (2007) and CIENTÍFICOS ARGENTINOS (2007).

From 2017 to 2019 she was the artistic director in curatorship at La Casa del Bicentenario. There, she developed an experimental art project specially designed for young artists including the digital technology as a leitmotiv for their creations. Some exhibitions during this process were: Luz Instantánea 80 polaroids by Andrei Tarkovski, El dibujo mutante by Alberto Breccia, El artista secreto by Pablo Cedrón, El Mundo del Espectáculo by Lolo y Lauti (reawakening La Sociedad del Espectáculo, by G. Debord) and Bergman: uno en cien by Sweden Embassy. Earlier, in 2016, she was the artistic director at Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario, there she developed an artistic project focused on contemporary theatre. Many concerts, operas and ballet were represented on its stage.
She began her professional career at Teatro Municipal General San Martín in Buenos Aires in 1997. She worked with many scenographers and art directors assisting them. Her master in craft were Hector Calmet, Tito Egurza, Roberto Plate, Edgardo Gimenez, Marta Albertinazzi, Carlos Gallardo, Agostino Pace, Jorge Lavelli, Alfredo Arias, Horacio Pigozzi, Jorge Sarudianski and María Julia Bertoto.
